This interesting, almost sci-fi evoking photo actually shows wireless receivers mounted on silicon wafers, A.K.A the things circuit boards are made out of! Eventually these silicone wafers will probably be cut apart to be components in other electronics, however it is that cutting or sawing a wafer or whatever is accomplished. However, the effect while they’re all together has given the photographer a great opportunity for an interesting perspective shot of a piece of technology most of us never give a second thought. Wow. No, I mean, just wow. There is so much to take in with this photograph. The textures and lines, not to mention the stark contrast of the sea foam green with the rustic browns of the thicket, is indeed nothing short of art. And it is really a great example of how framing can be everything. The decision to show just the right amount of the fire hydrant, and have its surface act as both the focal point and negative space, is really what makes this photograph work so well. How beautiful is this? It captures of both complexity and simplicity, like any moment in time. I just can’t get over it. It’s like looking at a metaphor of a dream. Isn’t it amazing, how something as ordinary as the silhouette of literally a garden weed,  in front of the lens of a skilled photo artist, can produce something this amazing? This simple shot is all about framing and mood. It’s clearly depicting a walkway on a bridge or overpass. We can see hints of  passive fall protection systems in place to protect pedestrians, behind the railings, that ground us back to reality but don’t overwhelm the scene by any stretch. What makes the photograph so effective is the tunnel effect it has produced,  and the sapphire sky overhead. It’s almost dream-like, but familiar. We’ve all walked through a walkway like this, and this is every walkway we’ve ever walked. Very nice, and much thanks to photographer Sean McGrath for publishing it under Creative Commons!

Most of the time when you order pizza from a restaurant, it’s cooked in a commercially produced, industrial oven. Pictured here, by contrast, is an earthen wood burning oven. What I love about this photograph is that it showcases the beautiful elegance of this kind of cooking, and it just feels… real. A photograph of an industrial oven isn’t really going to get your mouth watering. But, this? These pies cooking in the earthen oven, with the beautiful fire next to it? Ever stumble upon a photograph that you just can’t tear your eyes away from? This mesmerizing photo is just that – its vibrant colors, ethereal textures and wonderfully random repetition of shapes it simply a visual treat!  You almost forget you have no idea what you’re actually looking at! (It’s an underwater plum with little air bubbles on its surface, and more underwater plums reflected in the air bubbles.) Doesn’t peeling paint, especially on Brick, just produce the most interesting textures? And it certainly sets a particular sort of mood for a photograph — it is reminiscent of a bygone era, regardless of what that era might be. It is representative of mutability in a setting where permanence reigns supreme, and that is what is so powerful about it. Sure, we can still read “piston rings“, but not without interruption. You look at this photograph, and your mind wants to imagine what it looked like freshly painted, but you can’t help but be reminded of time by that peeling paint.
