The Gull Reminds Us

This photograph by Ingrid Taylar depicts a seagull that was exposed to the San Francisco Oil Spill in 2007. We spend so much time looking at photo art, it can be easy to overlook the significance of event photographs. That is not to say that event photographs are not beautiful Рthis seagull photo is very nicely framed, focused, etc. In any other context, it would be art. But, this animal is part of a larger story. The photograph is a reminder of the need for oil and industrial spill control and prevention. This photograph does a job, and being great photography helps it do its job.
