The Details and the Whole Picture

One fun thing about close-up or detail photographs is that they definitely aren’t always what they seem. This photograph, for instance, may look like a close up of the controls for some kind of heavy machinery, but it’s actually an overload clutch on some audio mixing equipment in a recording studio! It comes to us from David Poe.¬†Amazing how our preconceived notions about details shape our understanding of the rest of the world, and how the world at large can influence our assumption and therefore understanding of the details right in front of us. Just another way photography is a powerful artistic and communication tool!
