The Future of Learning

This photo is what learning looks like in the 21st century. The iPads with their resistive touch screens as a teaching tool may still feel a little sci-fi to the generation of the CRT monitor, but this scene is only going to become more and more common. I don’t know whether the photographer, Brad Flickinger, intended this or not, but I think what makes this photograph so effective is that the children look like they’re doing schoolwork, but they’re not at desks facing the front of a classroom or anything; the photo’s framing shows us that they’re in front of a window. This is a deviation from what we normally think of as “school”, certainly. Additionally, that the children are so close to the outside world, but are totally immersed in technology is an interesting element. The whole thing kind of works together to tell us, “this is what the future is going to be like.”
