Men & Machine

Anyone who has ever attempted taking a nice photograph of someone welding will tell you that it’s not easy. I mean, think about it – look at that bright light source, which is not continuous, right in the middle of the frame! Suffice it to say, you need a pretty high-powered camera in addition to the ability to compose a shot quickly. This photo by Vincent Desjardins exemplifies that kind of skill and artistry. In this shot, we are able to get past the technical aspect of the welding itself – in the foreground with all that light flooding the used welding equipment and all the difficulties that presents, mind you – and see the story of the subject. Truly spectacular.
