Wheelchair Basketball

There is so much going on in this photograph by Mario Bollini. It definitely does a lot of work for its viewer. It captures a moment and it tells a story! Its background treats our eyes to some lovely old, ornate Guatemalan architecture and visually interesting foliage that seems somewhat neglected and implies stagnation. In beautiful contrast, the foreground captures us with an exciting basketball action scene and the modern technology of lightweight wheelchairs developed specially for wheelchair basketball. The unquestionable strength of this photograph is its seamless blend of old and new; of neglect and progress; of stagnation and excitement.
