Tungsten Bullets

Tungsten Bullets

This photo of tungsten M-16 bullets was provided by the U.S. Army Environmental Command in September of 2007 by using a Nikon D80. The picture was shot by Jean Skillman at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. Tungsten isn’t a metal that you hear about very often. I had to look it up to learn a little more about it and why it would be a good option for bullets. Apparently, it is a fairly rare metal that is generally combined with other metals to create specialty alloys. Tungsten has a the strength and density that make it valuable for a number of projectile and explosive military applications.
