Coated in bright and cheery John Deere green and set against a blue sky background and tweaked for hue, this massive agricultural combine was shot by Eric Sivesind. It is common for large agricultural components to be sprayed with a durable coating in order to maintain the pretty gleam on the equipment for years of plowing through acres of crops. I was educated slightly on the process used for powder coating some farm equipment, so I thought I would share the information with you!
HVOF, or High Velocity Oxygen Fuel Spraying, takes a combination of fuel (liquid or gas) and oxygen and ignites the mix in a combustion chamber in a continual process. The hot gasses that result from the combustion are fed with powder coating and directed at high velocity towards a surface to be coated.
