Many times, we don’t notice the mundane, common things all around us. One of those things falls into the power generation category. Not many of us bother to look up at the power lines – we’re too busy trying to see the stars. One drawback of noticing is it can be haunting. I am grateful for the industrial air pollution abatement policies we have in place after seeing these smokestacks in Germany.
Photographer Frank van de Velde does a very good job of bringing out the texture in the structures. It almost seems like the stack in the background has the same amount of detail as the one immediately in view, which is marvelous. He has also used black and white to really portray the essential need we have for power, be it good or bad – it is up to the viewer to decide how they feel.
