CNC Router

Poseidon CNC routerThis is a close-up shot of a production-grade CNC router from CMS North America’s site, the kind of router that you would find in actual machine shops. A CNC router is a machine that takes information from a 3D computer model and translates it into a series of movements that allows the router to cut the shape out of a block of wood.

CNC routers can range from benchtop hobby models that home woodworkers use to handle complex engraving patters to full scale production CNC machines that allow machine shops to create complex shapes, including curving bannisters and wood (or even stone) sculptures.

Most machine shops specialize in machining metal for manufacturing, but some are specifically wood shops and use CNC routers to manufacturer elaborate wood shapes and designs in a way that allows them to replicate the design perfectly time after time.
