Hanging Around

This photograph may not contain many elements, but how they play together makes it fabulous. The placement of the hangers and the crossing of the wires both slightly off-center draws the eye in to a central focal point. Vertical streaks in the gray backdrop serve to add texture and make the composition feel taller.

The colors of the clothes hangers add another touch to the image. Had they simply been one color or the standard wooden ones, it wouldn’t be the same. Instead, the mixture of pastels and muted brights adds a slight touch of whimsy that is immediately downplayed by the dark surroundings. All pieces put together, there is a moody complexity to this photo.
