Lithuanian Berry Pickers

Broad smiles after a day of berry picking are captured on the faces of two ladies in this brightly colored photo by Richard Schofield. The artist shared the story of coming upon this perfect shot, entitled “Gerkonys”, in his own words:

“I went for a long walk and got lost in the forest. When I found civilisation again (in the shape of a tiny train station) I was greeted by these two fabulous ladies. They were sat waiting to go home after a productive morning picking berries, a traditional thing to do in the summer in Lithuania. Note the colour of their hands.”

As joy radiates from these two women, you can’t help but wonder what it was that prompted the laughter. Was it a joke? Maybe a story shared between old friends? Or maybe it was just the satisfaction and relief of resting after a busy day of berry picking.
